Newly promoted Watford have set their sights on Tottenham’s Brazilian midfielder, Paulinho.

The Hornets are looking to add much needed steel to their midfield and believe Paulinho’s Premier League experience ticks the box.

Spurs look set to grant the player’s leave with the 26-year-old seeing first team opportunities limited following the rise of Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb.

The defensive midfielder was limited to just 15 first team appearances last season due to the impressive form shown by the duo.

Watford owner Giampaolo Pozzo is willing to support new coach Quique Sanchez Flores’ pursuit of Paulinho with a loan move the most likely scenario.

The Brazil international was signed from Corinthians for a fee of £17million in 2013 by former Spurs boss, Andre Villas- Boas, after the player shone in Brazil’s Confederations Cup triumph.

Expensive Flop

After an impressive debut season which saw the player amass eight goals in 37 appearances, Paulinho failed to prove his worth to new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, last term.

Watford think they can prize the player out of White Hart Lane and believe the lure of guaranteed game time will be too much for the midfield enforcer to turn down.
