Defender Shkodran Mustafa is now the Gunners’ top priority, as Arsene Wenger puts his striker search on hold.

Arsenal centre back Gabriel suffered a worrying ankle injury in a friendly against Manchester City recently, which has prompted fears of potential ligament damage. Because of this, it is said that Wenger is ready to formalise a deal for the Valencia defender as a possible replacement.

Wenger may well also be forced to rush back Laurent Koscielny, who only returned to pre-season training following the Euros on Monday and had been scheduled to miss the Liverpool clash.

a bid in the region of £20 million for Mustafi is expected to be placed inside 48 hours in the hope a deal could be rushed through.

Much to the annoyance of the fans, Arsenal are also interested in Jonny Evans, but West Bromwich Albion are insistent that it would take far more that the £15 million the Gunners are believed to be prepared to pay to tempt them to sell the former Manchester United man.
