Hammers tell Sunderland to name their price for striker

West Ham have seen a £6million bid for Jermain Defoe rejected by Sunderland.

The Hammers have told the Black Cats to name their price for the 34-year old striker, with Slaven Bilic desperate to add to his squad in January.

Hopes that Simone Zaza would add goals to the side when he signed in the summer have proven to be dashed, and now West Ham have been dragged into the relegation battle.

Andre Ayew and Andy Carroll have both struggled with injury, combining for only three goals, leaving the Hammers scoring at only just over a goal a game.

Sunderland have struggled even more in front of goal and, with Defoe scoring 11 of their 19 goals this season, will be incredibly reluctant to let him go.

Defoe begun his career at West Ham before moving to Tottenham in 2004.
