Will Diego Costa situation HURT Chelsea?

Truth or not, the situation at Chelsea has been big.

Ever since reports broke regarding the Diego Costa situation at Chelsea, it’s been a huge talking point.

Since the reports first came about, Diego Costa was spotted training alone, before returning to training with the first team and being pictured hugging it out with the coaching staff at Chelsea’s training complex.

Antonio Conte claimed the striker simply had a back injury, and there was nothing more to the story – while others believe that the reported offer from China did indeed ply a big part in the supposed row between Costa and his manager.

It was suggested Costa had even turned down a new contract offer from Chelsea, although there is nothing to prove this yet – but the new question regarding the whole controversy is, will this situation harm Chelsea’s title challenge?

How easy will it be for Conte to reintrouduce the Spanish striker to his match day squad, and how do the players around them feel about the ongoing situation?

While only time will tell, many feel that if there is any truth to the reports that Antonio Conte shouted “Go to China” at Costa towards the end of the rumoured bust-up, it may prove a problem for Chelsea as they go into an important part of the season, with two massive games coming up against two other title rivals, Arsenal and Liverpool.

While everyone is now agreed that Diego Costa will NOT be leaving Stamford Bridge in the current transfer window, rumours of him seeking away come summer are already doing the rounds, with reports suggesting that Roman Abramovic is not going to back down in January, but perhaps will not stand in Costa way should he choose to leave the club for the right price next transfer window.

If there is any truth to this, then Costa’s team-mates may think less of the forward, knowing that he plans to leave them after this campaign.

Chelsea are in a unique situation, as they do not NEED to sell – with the amount of money Roman Abramovic is able to pump into the club, the ball is very much in Costa’s court.

If he was to leave, however, you imagine that Chelsea would not struggle financially to find a replacement, but there isn’t anybody quite like Diego Costa – and many believe Antonio Conte’s system relays heavily on the style of play the former Atletico Madrid man brings to the table.

Of course, there is always a chance that these reports are way off the mark, and Costa may well remain at Stamford Bridge after the summer transfer window.

Chelsea fans will have to wait and see – but with Costa expected to rejoin the squad for their next game against Hull City, it is entirely possible that Costa himself will show exactly how he feels about the entire situation.
