Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane has admitted that the club are monitoring Raheem Sterling’s contract saga at Liverpool.

The England international has already rejected an offer from the club after they failed to meet his wage demands, and since his interview last week with the BBC, more speculation has arised surrounding his future.

Sterling told BBC that he won’t be signing a new deal yet and won’t be talking with the club’s officials until the Summer before claiming it’s about winning trophies and not about the money.

The 20-year-old has received severe stick for the interview he did, and it has alerted several clubs who are interested in him.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been recently linked with signing him, and Zidane has now confirmed that Real Madrid are keeping tabs on the contract dispute.

“We know who Raheem Sterling is, and of course we are monitoring him as a player,” Zidane told the Daily Mail.

“There are very few players in the world who can improve the Real Madrid squad, so it is going to make sense we monitor the progress of the best young players in the world.

“We monitored Bale for over a year, the same with Isco and also Varane.

“We monitor many of the best young players in Europe, then if we feel they have something to offer Real Madrid we will contact their club and try and make the next step.”
