Dani Carvajal has been given a 2-match ban that is seen as a deliberate attempt to get a yellow card.

Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane has confirmed that the club will appeal for the 2-match ban handed by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.

The incident happened during Madrid’s 6-0 win over APOEL in the Champions League game on November 21 when the defender delayed a throw-in and was shown a yellow card.

As it was his 3rd booking in the Champions League, the player was suspended from taking part in the last group match earlier this week where Real Madrid won 3-2 against Dortmund.

The ban was initially 1 match but the authorities extended it to a two-match ban. This means that the Spanish international won’t be able to feature in the first leg of Round of 16, which commences in February.

While talking to the press on Friday, Zidane said, “You can’t prove he intended to pick up a card. We are going to appeal that decision and maybe they reduce that ban. I don’t think it’s fair.

“I don’t think he was for the yellow, but some may think otherwise. If you look at the game, look at my reaction. I was surprised. I wasn’t expecting the yellow card. You have to (Dani) Carvajal, but I think it’s unfair. That’s my point of view.”

The draw for the Round of 16 takes place on 11th December at 11 am UK time.
