Spain defeated the French last night at the Allianz Arena in the semi-finals due to superior skill. Although France had a difficult time living up to their reputation as the pre-tournament favourites in Germany, they managed to go to the last four before losing in Munich.
With Mbappe setting up the opening goal to give France the lead, Randal Kolo Muani gave Les Bleus the lead early in the tournament. This was their first non-penalty goal (excluding their own goals). However, Spain responded with two goals in as many minutes, one of which was a brilliant equaliser from rookie Lamine Yamal.
France was eliminated from the competition without being able to force extra time with an equalizer. After calling out Mbappe for not living up to his customary standards, manager Deschamps expressed his dissatisfaction with his team’s performance.
“I will not say that my players did not give it their all,” he added. “But for a variety of reasons, we didn’t play as well as we could. Kylian didn’t perform as well as he usually does.” “We tried to do our best with what we had and tried to be as efficient as possible,” I say without offering any justifications.
Mbappe Admits He Failed At Euro 2024
It was France’s first major tournament semi-final loss since Euro 1996, with Mbappe squandering a late chance. The French were unable to force an equaliser in the second half.
“They played a better game than us,” Mbappe remarked to reporters in the mixed zone following the loss. We gave up two goals early on and missed opportunities to tie the score in the second half. The competition didn’t work out. We’re not the European Champions, which is what I wanted. Football is that.
