Spurs look to Djed Spence to resolve Conte's right wing back problems

Tottenham Hotspur could end one of Antonio Conte’s biggest nightmares for just £10m this summer

During the winter transfer window, Spurs were connected with a move for Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence, who is currently on loan at Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.

Under their new manager, Steve Cooper, he has played a significant role in helping the Reds knock Arsenal out of the FA Cup and propel them firmly into the promotion fight.

Spurs are said to have failed with two offers for him on deadline day, but a promising allegation has surfaced that will please both sporting director Fabio Paratici and the Italian head coach.

“There’s going to be a lot of competition to sign him, but Middlesbrough are open to the idea of him leaving permanently,” said Dean Jones.

Spence is presently one among Forest’s top five performers in the Championship, with an average of 1.6 interceptions (second-best) and 1.5 tackles per game, but he can also contribute in abundance further forward, with an average of 1.7 successful dribbles and 0.9 vital passes each appearance.

Spence, who was recently hailed as a “constant threat” by ex-Premier League winner Wes Morgan, may be the right answer for the 52-year-old Conte.
