Ryan Tunnicliffe’s dad bet his son would play for Man U one day

Manchester United midfielder, Ryan Tunnicliffe, made his father, Mick Tunnicliffe, £10,000 richer after making his first appearance for the Manchester club.

The 19-year-old came on for United during their Capital One Cup match against Newcastle mid-week and that turned a £100 bet into £10,000 winnings for his father.

Mick Tunnicliffe made a bet (when his son was just nine) that he would play for Manchester United one day. He bet £100 and the odds were 100-1 and in the 76th minute, his bet came through.

The proud father also bet that he would one day play for England. The odds for that were 350-1 and he made another £100 bet on that. If Ryan Tunnicliffe does feature for England, his father would win a whopping £35,000.

‘The last time a bet of this nature cost us £10,000 was when Chris Kirkland made his debut in goal for England, also landing a £100 bet for his father,’ said William Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
