11 Tips to Avoid Blisters from Soccer Boots

The amazing and convenient invention that we call soccer boots makes the way we play the game easier and more enjoyable. However, just like any other thing out there, they do come with their disadvantages.

While they offer ideal aerodynamics and prevent slipping on grass, their tight fit affects most players. How? Well, obviously, worst soccer boots paired with some socks and a sport that’s bound to make you sweaty will most likely result in blisters.

But some would say that it’s not entirely the fault of the boots. Professional soccer players will often tell beginners that they should’ve focused on prevention and treated their feet better to avoid blisters and not place all the blame on their boots.

Without further ado, here are eleven of the best tips to avoid blisters from soccer Boots!

Don’t Take a New Pair of boots for Granted

If you plan on buying a new pair of boots to avoid getting blisters, you should think again. They have to be broken in – basically you have to allow them to be worn in, so that they can mold to the shape of your feet. Until that happens, they might cause you a blister or two.

This is why it’s not recommended that you wear a new pair of boots to a soccer match right after you pull them out of the box. Test them during training, go for a run, and so on.

Don’t Rely on a Single Pair of Boots

When you buy a new pair, never throw away your previous one. As you break in your new soccer boots, blister hot spots will appear. If your skin is sensitive, they will hurt – a lot – and you won’t feel good wearing the new pair.

However, your feet will already be used to an old pair and most likely won’t worsen your blister hot spots.

Thorough Comfort Check

Don’t just buy a pair of boots on a whim, especially if you expect to play soccer better. You need more than just a perfect fit if you want to keep blisters away.

You must pay attention to any discomfort, as well as to the pressure points on your feet. None of them should be affected by a pair that you plan to buy.

Use a Softgel for Pain Relief

As we mentioned earlier, it’s usually not the boots’ fault that we get blisters. It’s mostly our fault for not treating them early enough. When you feel a hot spot forming, start treating it immediately.

One of the best things you can use is a cooling softgel with calming properties. Organic CBD softgel with melatonin can not only keep the hot spot under control but also helps you sleep better, and ease the pain.

Rely on High-Quality Socks Only

Sometimes, the socks are more important than the boots, especially if your feet sweat profusely. If you wear normal socks, the friction you experience is increased – and this is the main cause of blisters.

But, if you wear a pair that’s specially designed for soccer, you might even play better. The recently popularized grip socks decrease the slippage and friction inside the shoe with the help of rubber grips.

Careful of Your Boots Breaking Down

A pair of soccer boots is not meant to last forever. Sadly, for us soccer players, they are likely to cause blisters when they break down as well.

Due to the constant wear and tear on the boots, the soleplate starts to shift more and more. Naturally, this increases friction quite a lot. Since this can’t be improved with just a good pair of socks, it’s a sign that you have to get yourself a new pair of boots.

Keep Your Skin Clean and Dry

Clean and dry skin helps you with two very important things. First of all, it greatly decreases the chances of getting a blister. Dry and clean skin does not favor friction, at all.

Second of all, properly maintained skin also prevents infections if you do get a blister eventually. Obviously, if a blister doesn’t get infected, it will hurt less and will heal much faster.

Try the Deodorant Trick

There’s more to this tip than just deodorant. You’ve probably already noticed how professional soccer players almost always spray something in their boots before a match. Sometimes, it’s their favorite deodorant. However, there are also talc-based deodorants that greatly decrease perspiration.

If you spray the inside of your boots, as well as your feet, with such products, you will greatly decrease friction. They can also help if your feet get extremely sweaty, no matter what you are doing.

Add Padding to Areas with Issues

Sometimes we’re not able to prevent the formation of a blister, regardless of what tips we rely on. As such, you could find yourself in a situation where you have a hot spot to deal with just days before a big match. What do you do?

Well, you can rely on gauze or even tape to cover the hot spots, as well as any places that you know you tend to get blisters. This is a last resort when it comes to decreasing friction on the inside of your boots.

Try Using Two Pairs of Socks

While some don’t recommend this, it’s better to just try and see what works for you. This being said, in some cases, a second pair of socks can really help you decrease that friction we’ve been talking about.

This is because it will get transferred in-between the two cloth layers and, ultimately, keep your skin friction (and sweat) free.

Heat Up Your Boots

This is known to soccer players as the hot water trick. In very short terms, you simply put your brand-new boots in hot water for around ten minutes after which you use them for about half an hour.

By use, we don’t mean intensive training, but just a run around the block or some light exercise. Reportedly, this can help break in your new boots much, much faster. Some say that they’ll be the perfect fit for your foot shape after that 30-minute run.

The Bottom Line

You can’t ask for a foul when one of your blisters pops on the field. The same applies to when a hot spot starts to turn into a full-fledged blister and you get the itches.

But this is nothing to joke about. A properly formed blister, can really prevent you from playing the game properly. If you want to avoid this, then make sure to follow the tips we mentioned above.

Also, remember that a nice new pair of boots can’t be compared with the comfort of your previous pair – so don’t throw them away just yet!
