According to latest reports, Manchester City have made an inquiry for Portugal and Barcelona right-back Nelson Semedo. The Citizens are searching for a player to compete with Kyle Walker in the tight-back position and Semedo seems to fit the bill for Pep Guardiola.

City were initially chasing Juventus right-back Joao Cancelo but the deal has stalled due to some reasons. It is reported that Guardiola has now turned his attention to the Barca defender as an alternative for Cancelo.

However, Barcelona have straightly pointed Man City to the player’s €100m release clause. The Blaugrana consider the 25-year-old non-transferable and are willing to keep hold of him. Nelson Semedo arrived at the Nou Camp in the summer of 2017 after Barcelona forked out a sum of €30.5m to acquire his services. On his arrival, the Portuguese right-back competed for a starting spot with makeshift defender Sergi Roberto under Ernesto Valverde.

Semedo’s future was in doubt last year after was said to be looking out for an exit road at the Nou Camp. However, current reports suggest that the Catalans are preparing to offer him a new deal. His current contract runs until 2022.
