Florentino Perez won’t be around forever, so who are the potential candidates to succeed him?

Quite surprisingly, that could be tennis player Rafael Nadal, who has always been admired by the Real Madrid chief.

Florentino Perez has been at the helm of Real Madrid for the best part of 20 years. His longevity and trophy haul are only bettered by the legendary Santiago Bernabeu.

Next year there will be elections at the Bernabeu, but no twists are expected. However, according to Defensa Central, current Los Blancos chief has chosen Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal to replace him in the future by becoming the next Real Madrid president. Perez has long admired his compatriot and has met with him on numerous occasions over the years. In addition, Nadal is a big Real Madrid fan and often talks about his love for the La Liga giants.

Another report by DC claims that Perez recently held a meeting with some Real Madrid figures where he made it clear Nadal should be his heir as early as in 2031. The chief feels that the 19 times Grand Slam winner has “Real Madrid DNA” and would be a worthy candidate when he eventually steps down, as the the 72-year-old is currently in the midst of his second spell at the club.

Nadal opened the door to the Real Madrid presidency when speaking in 2017: “You never know what will happen. Everybody knows that I love football and that Real Madrid is my team.

“Talking about that now is a bit of a utopia but if you ask me, of course I would like to be president. In any case, we’re doing just fine as we are, we have a great president and I don’t think Real Madrid need me for anything.”
