Sunderland winger Adam Johnson is going to be sidelined for at least eight weeks due to a shoulder injury, says manager Dick Advocaat.

The 28-year-old will undergo examination to find out the severity of the injury he suffered in training, but Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat expects him to be out for about two months.

The Dutchman believes the England international needs testing, he said: “Adam will go to the hospital for a scan tonight and then we will know exactly what is wrong.

“It is a serious injury and it will be at least eight weeks.” he added.

Johnson played a full 90 minutes in Sunderland’s 4-2 defeat by Leicester City on the opening day of the new Premier League campaign last weekend.
