Manchester City star Bernardo Silva believes that his City teammate Sergio Aguero can someday become Premier League’s top goalscorer. The Argentine striker scored his 148th Premier League goal for Manchester City in their 2-0 win over Brighton on Saturday.

Aguero is 10th in Premier League’s all-time top 10 goalscorers. He is just one goal behind No.9 Les Ferdinand and two goals behind No.8 Michael Owen. Since Aguero already has 5 goals in 7 league matches so far, we can see him reaching up to at least 6th. Robbie Fowler is currently Premier League’s 6th highest goal scorer with 163 goals to his name.

However, Bernardo Silva feels that Aguero can become the greatest goalscorer in Premier League. Silva said, “Sergio is the best scorer in Manchester City’s history. He’s a legend, not only for Manchester City, but also for the Premier League. If not the best striker in the world, then one of the best.

It’s great to have him with us, every season he scores 30 goals or more. To have a player like him, it helps us so much. You have to admire players that score 30 goals and next season they don’t rest, they want to score 30 or 40 again. We have to admire that and be happy to have him and enjoy it. Everyone hopes he stays. If he reaches that level, it will be even better because everyone knows how important Alan Shearer was for English football and for the Premier League. I think he can reach it, he’s got the potential. Every season, he keeps scoring more and more.

We hope he can keep helping us winning more titles here in Manchester.”

Alan Shearer is currently the top scorer in Premier League history with 260 goals. Aguero needs another 112 goals to match his record. Aguero has so far scored an average of around 21 goals per league season and judging by his current contract, he needs to score almost 40 Premier League goals per season which is at best, a near-impossible task. Hence, Aguero needs to extend his current contract by at least 2 years if he is to become Premier League’s all-time top scorer.

Manchester City’s win over Brighton saw them return to the top of the table after Liverpool drew against Chelsea. City next play a Champions League fixture against Hoffenheim tomorrow. They will hope to register their first win of the competition after Lyon stunned them 2-1 at home. Manchester City’s next Premier League fixture is against Liverpool on Sunday.
