The latest report from Mundo Deportivo states that Ajax wonderkid, Matthijs de Ligt is highly interested in moving to Barcelona next summer.

The Blaugrana have already finalised a £66m move for de Ligt’s teammate, Frenkie de Jong and previous reports claimed they were interested in the 19-year-old centre-back as well.

Some even claimed that Ernesto Valverde was planning a double swoop of the Ajax academy products but the rumours never materialised for de Ligt. Now, the player has made it known about his intentions to move to the Camp Nou.

He is ready to wait it out for the Barcelona hierarchy to approach him with a contract offer. While it is understood that de Jong has been signed on a massive contract by the La Liga outfit, de Ligt admiringly is ready to accept lower wages to line up next to the likes of Jordi Alba and Gerard Pique.

The only hiccup comes in the form of another 19-year-old defender by the name of Jean-Clair Todibo, whom Barcelona signed from Toulouse last month. The Frenchman was supposed to arrive next summer but Valverde decided to prepone the transfer altogether.

There is no telling as to how much the Catalan giants still want de Ligt but it is certain that they are keeping tabs on him. The centre-half has made 33 appearances this season, contributing with 3 goals and 2 assists on the offensive end.

At just 19, he has already been capped 13 times for the Dutch senior national team and a bunch of times at youth levels. With Samuel Umtiti turning into an injury concern for Valverde and Pique turning 32 this week, Barcelona might be looking at an overhaul of top young talents for a secured future. de Ligt certainly fits their plans in the long run.
