Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has given his backing to out-of-form striker Papiss Cisse and believes he will come good with goals sooner rather than later.

The Senegal international hasn’t scored in the Premier League since April last seaosn, when The Magpies beat Fulham 1-0. So far this season, Cisse has only scored one and that has come in the Capital One Cup against Leeds United.

However, Pardew believes Cisse will find his lethal touch once again and will start scoring for fun, much like he was doing when he first arrived in England.

“He’s a big player for us and we need him in the goals. I’ve been really boosted by his personality and performance,” he told the Daily Express.

“Papiss has been doing exceptionally well in training and his attitude has been first class. Like any striker, he wants to be in there scoring goals, taking chances and getting on the end of things.

“I’m sure that will happen,” he added.

“He has been brilliant, our best player on the training ground and that’s good to see.”
