Alan Pardew wants to strengthen his side

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed that he still wants to be active in the transfer market and is still on the look out for new players.

So far this summer, St James Park has only welcomed one summer signing and that is Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy coming in on-loan for the season, despite the Frenchman rejecting a move to Newcastle back in January.

The Magpies will be without centre-back Steven Taylor for three games now after being sent off against Manchester City in their season opener and Pardew admits that his squad is a too small at the moment.

Pardew told the Newcastle Chronicle: “If it doesn’t (happen), like anything in life, we’re going to have to get on with it with what we’ve got.

“We’ve still got a very good team with Loic Remy on top of it. We lost Demba (Ba) and got the other guys in in January. I still think one more would be the perfect scenario.”

The former-West Ham United boss also believes new signings will give the squad a much-needed boost after they got thumped 4-0 by City on Monday night.

“I think a player does that to the group. A big player coming in boosts the group as well as the fans,” he added.

“I’m not going to say something that I don’t think is true and say ‘oh, it’s not affecting them’. I think they’d like to see another striker come in the door.

“That’s something that hopefully will be done before the window shuts.”
