Chelsea and Liverpool must meet Shakhtar Donetsk’s asking-price
Alex Teixeira will only be sold this month if Chelsea or Liverpool match Shakhtar Donetsk’s asking-price of £37.8million.
The Premier League duo have both expressed their interest in the Brazilian over the past few weeks, with Liverpool joining the race earlier in the week, but both have been put off by the excessive transfer fee being demanded.
According to reports, Liverpool made a formal offer of around £25m during last week, only for it to be turned down by the Ukrainian club as they look set to hold out for nearer £40m.
Chelsea were the first club to be linked with Teixeira due to the lack of goals from their striking department, but with Jurgen Klopp‘s men suffering from injuries to the likes of Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi, they also entered the race.
Moves for Teixeira
Ian Ayre flew out to America last week in order to hold talks with Teixeira and officials from Shakhtar, but he couldn’t convince them to lower their demands.
An inside from the Ukraine club has confirmed that they haven’t given up on the negotiations, but they won’t be forced into selling on the cheap.
