Barcelona’s new signing, Roony Bardghji, earned high praise from teammate Alexander Isak after making his senior debut for Sweden in a 2-0 World Cup qualifying defeat to Switzerland on Friday.

Despite the loss, the 19-year-old forward’s late appearance provided a positive spark, with Isak commending his immediate impact.

Bardghji made his first senior appearance for Sweden in the 85th minute of the match against Switzerland in Stockholm.

Although the debut was brief and the result disappointing, it marked a significant milestone in the young player’s career.

Following the game, Bardghji reflected on the moment, stating, “It was special. It was something I had been waiting for for a long time”.

He added that despite the limited playing time, he felt he was “able to show a little bit anyway” and demonstrated what he can contribute to the team.

The debut did not go unnoticed, as Swedish star Alexander Isak immediately highlighted Bardghji’s performance as a bright spot in a tough game.

“Roony is a top-level player. I don’t see him as a talent who has a chance; he’s established. He’s where he is for a reason,” Isak told reporters.

He further emphasized the energy Bardghji brought to the pitch, saying, “I think he’s coming in with very good energy.

It’s a shame for him that we’re in that situation and that we lost. But for me, I think he was a ray of light for us”.

The defeat leaves Sweden in a difficult position in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, as they remain at the bottom of Group B with just one point from three matches.

The team will aim to get their camp4r5aign back on track in their next qualifier against Kosovo.

Following the international break, Bardghji will return to Barcelona to prepare for the club’s upcoming La Liga fixture against Girona.

After making his official debut for Barcelona in a victory over Valencia in September, the young winger will be hoping to earn more minutes with his club.
