The midfielder came on to help inspire the Reds on Thursday

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen believes the Reds can use their 4-3 win over Borussia Dortmund on Thursday night to go on and win the Europa League.

A last minute goal from Dejan Lovren meant Jurgen Klopp’s Reds reached the semi-finals of the Europa League, by knocking out his former club, who were the favourites for the tournament at the beginning of the campaign.

And Allen believes that Klopp was a big part of why Liverpool progressed to the semis on a magical night at Anfield.

“He said, ‘Go and try and make things happen. You have nothing to lose’. The manager’s passion rubs off on everyone.” Allen explained.

“Of course we can recover emotionally. This game will help us. I have no doubt about that. These are the games which inspire you. Exciting games.

Battling for top four

But Allen insists they will not solely be focusing on Europe for the rest of the season, with the Reds believing they can do make one last-ditch attempt to make the top four.

“We will be looking to ride the crest of the wave of this game. We are fighting on both fronts.” Allen added.

It had looked for some time that Liverpool’s chances of the top four were all-but over. However, the Reds won 2-1 away at Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon, after Klopp had made ten changes to the side that started in their midweek thriller against Dortmund.

Klopp had made a steady start when he first arrived at Anfield, but Divock Origi is one player in particular, that looks to have developed well under the German’s guidance, and Liverpool fans will be feeling fairly confident, going into next season.
