Chelsea star Alvaro Morata didn’t train with the Spanish national team on Thursday – because of a problem with his toenail.

According to MARCA, the 25 year-old was suffering some discomfort due to the toenail issue and trained in the gym rather than with his teammates ahead of Spain’s match against Costa Rica on Saturday.

Morata would have been expected to start in that match and also against Russia on Tuesday, but having not trained today he may not be risked if there is any risk of aggravating the issue.

It’s not the first time a Spanish player has suffered from a bizarre injury this season. Back in September, Marco Asensio missed Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over APOEL in the Champions League because of an infected pimple.

Chelsea fans needn’t be too concerned and he should recover without any problems for their Premier League clash with West Brom after the international break.

Morata has been crucial for Antonio Conte’s team this season, scoring 8 goals in 12 appearances including the winner against Manchester United this week.

His form has earned him plenty of plaudits, as well as rumoured interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain who are supposedly looking to tempt him away from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are looking to sign strikers in January as well as back-up to Morata. Find out the Blues’ Top Targets for the January Window here.
