Andre Villas-Boas: ‘Tottenham cannot win the title’

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has rejected claims saying that his side are one of the teams to be considered in the title race, despite spending nearly ÂŁ50million on strengthening his team.

White Hart Lane has seen a lot of new arrivals come through the doors this summer, with a couple more expected to be announced later this week.

Roberto Soldado, Etienne Capoue, Paulinho and Nacer Chadli have all signed for Spurs already and it looks like Willian, Erik Lamela and Fabio Coentrao could be set to join them in Tottenham colours for the new season.

The one negative side of the transfer window for Villas-Boas is that it looks all-but certain that star-man Gareth Bale will be leaving the club this summer in order to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Despite spending heavily and completely changing the squad, the ex-Chelsea manager believes his side are not genuine title contenders.

He said: “I don’t agree that we can be title contenders for this season coming because everything is happening, everything is changing.

“We have to create a team at the moment from all these new players that we have bought.

“We haven’t had lots of time to work with them, but we believe that in the future we can definitely achieve it.”
