Andres Iniesta wants to retire at Barcelona

FC Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has revealed that he plans on retiring at the Catalan club, despite rejecting a contract extension from them just a week ago.

The Spanish international was offered a new deal last week, but he rejected the offer which then sparked reports that he could be on his way out of the Nou Camp.

However, these reports were dismissed by his father, who revealed that his son will always want to play for the club he grew up at.

Now it has been Iniesta who has been talking and he has confirmed his intentions are to stay on at the Spanish club until he calls time on his playing days.

“I have said many times that my aim is to retire here and the club wants the same,” he told a press conference. “We all want to reach an agreement.

“The news coming out and the things people and reporters say are not things I can control. But there is nothing strange or any war going on between Barca and Iniesta. The club wants me here and I want to stay here.

“It has nothing to do with money or whether I am the second, third, fourth or fifth best-paid player. What motivates me is knowing that I have some good years ahead in which I can keep improving and growing as a player.”
