Andros Townsend insists his stupendous volley against Manchester City is the best goal in his entire football career.

Just after levelled the scoring through Jeffrey Schlupp Crystal Palace got a free kick in the City half. Patrick van Aanholt’s free kick got cleared by Bernardo Silva and fell straight to Townsend who shot it from 30 yards and Ederson didn’t have a clue as he couldn’t save it despite making great efforts.

The Eagles went on to win the match 3-2 leaving City in the second place four points adrift of Liverpool. Townsend’s brilliant volley is a genuine contender for the goal of the season and the forward himself got impressed by the strike.

“It sat up perfectly for me

“I knew the way Man City press that if I took a touch they’d be all over me so I knew I had to take it first time and, as soon as it left my foot, I knew it had a very good chance.

“Having watched it back, it’s definitely the best goal of my career, given the circumstances, given the opposition. I think City are probably the best side I’ve ever played against in my career, they’re incredible – you can’t get near them at times. So to score against them away from home definitely ranks as the best.”
