Nicolas Anelka denies that his gesture had any anti-Semitic connotations however he has caused anger in his home country France. West Brom understand that it has caused some offence but Anelka has been asked to not do it again and he has agreed not to. The ‘Quenelle’ salute was made famous by French Comedian Dieudonne M’Bala M’Bala who of which was prosecuted for doing so.
The European Jewish Congress hasrequested taht action should be taken against Nicolas Anelka. Anelka stated on Twitter that it was simply a dedication to his close friend Dieudonne. Minutes after the final whistle the frenchman was asked to explain his actionsand he merely said it was a tribute. He was asked to explain himself once again before training. The FA are still investigating and West Brom have been made aware of this.
The Striker is available to play league matches until an appropriate action is to be decided by the FA.
