Antoine Griezmann expected to sign new contract extension with Atletico Madrid

The Forward has been heavily linked with a summer exit

Since joining Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad back in 2014, Antoine Griezmann has been a mainstay in the team. He has given numerous impressive performances and has established himself as one of the best strikers in the World.

The 27 year old has been a regular for La Liga giants this season and, scoring 27 goals in all competitions. He helped his team to finish 2nd in the La Liga behind Barcelona and inspired them to win the Europa League last month.

Despite being contracted with Atletico until the summer of 2022, the France International has been heavily linked with a exit from the club. He has been heavily linked with a move to rivals Barcelona this summer with reports claiming that they are ready to pay his £88 million release clause.

There were recent speculations that Manchester United have rekindled their interest in him but it was put to rest by France coach Didier Deschamps. He confirmed that the Frenchman will stay in La Liga beyond this summer and that part was very clear.

Diego Simeone and his club teammates have expressed their desires in the past that they want the forward to stay with them beyond this summer.

Griezmann recently confirmed that  he will let everyone know ahead of France’s World Cup opener on Saturday against Australia whether he will accept a new contract offer from Atletico or push through a move to the Camp Nou ahead of next season.

He called a press conference while on international duty with France on Tuesday but refused to confirm anything.

“Today is not the day to talk about my future,” he said to Sky Sports. “Yes, I have already made a decision about my future. But I’m not going to speak about it today.

“It’s not the time or the place.”

But according to latest news, Greizmann is staying with Simeone’s side this summer and an Official announcement is expected to be made soon.
