Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has admitted it was very difficult for him to say no to Barcelona.
The French forward had been a long term target for the Catalans. The departure of Neymar had compelled them in the search of a potential successor and they had found Griezmann as the ideal candidate to replace him at the Nou Camp.
The French international has been on a scoring spree in the La Liga in the last few seasons and has been the driven force behind Atletico Madrid’s massive leap in the European Circuit.
Atletico knew Barcelona’s intention and the player ended up signing a new contract at the club which put a full stop to all the speculations. In an interview, the World cup winner insisted it was quite hard to reject a club like Barcelona. “When you are shown affection at your home then you don’t go to the other side.
“They did everything possible for me at the club to make me feel good, including the efforts to sign important players and to build a great squad.
I feel like the foundation or the most important piece of the puzzle.
“That’s what made me stay.
It’s often said that you do not say no to Barcelona, but I did the opposite.
“It is difficult to say no to clubs like Barcelona, but I’m really happy here.
“It is my home and I want to do great things.”
