Italian states he has no agreement in place

Antonio Conte has rejected claims he’s got an agreement in place with Chelsea.

The Italian manager will step down as head-coach of the Italy national team after the European Championships, as he eyes a return to club management.

After he released the statement confirming his decision, all reports claimed an agreement was in place already with the Premier League champions.

However, speaking about the Chelsea role, Conte dismissed claims he has an agreement in place to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Conte Statement

“Chelsea? It’s not a taboo for me, but I could talk about Italian teams too,” Conte said today ahead of Italy’s friendly with Spain.

“At the moment my thoughts and my pain are reserved for a choice [leaving the national team] that is not superficial and without heartache.

“I’ve taken the choice, and now we’ll see what the future holds, if there’s something beautiful in Italy or abroad. These choices are never taken lightly.

“What’s certain is that I won’t be coaching Italy for the next two years, my intention is to return to a club.

“After the Euro qualifiers, I was filled with satisfaction in seeing a group which was doing what I had asked.”
