Chelsea move closer to appointing new manager

Chelsea will hold further talks with Antonio Conte next week as they move in on appointing their next permanent manager.

The Italian is now heavy favourite to get the permanent role at Stamford Bridge, replacing interim-manager Guus Hiddink at the end of the season.

Conte will step down from his role with Italy‘s national team after the European Championships, and will then take the reigns at Chelsea, replacing Jose Mourinho, the previous permanent boss.

Chelsea officials have already held two rounds of negotiations with Conte, according to reports, and talks are set to continue into next week as they move closer to making the announcement.

According to reports, Conte wants ÂŁ6million-a-year from the club, and also wants to appoint Walter Sabatini as a Sporting Director from AS Roma.

Those are the current stumbling blocks in the deal, as Chelsea officials wanted to offer around ÂŁ4.2m-a-year, and are not prepared to alter the board for the new manager.

However, more talks will continue next week, and an announcement is expected to be made before the end of March, with Conte wanting it done and dusted before April.
