Pundit gives opinion on best United manager choice

Glenn Hoddle has stated that he thinks Southampton’s Ronald Koeman would be the best managerial appointment for Manchester United, not Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho, who is widely expected to be replacing Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford this summer, is only seen as a short-term fix for United by Hoddle.

“They can’t afford to get it wrong again,” Hoddle told the Mail on Sunday.

“That would set them back further.

“They can appoint Jose Mourinho, but he seems a short-term fix.

“Ryan Giggs might be a man for the long term but needs to cut his teeth somewhere.

“It would be easier to justify appointing Giggs if the club were winning trophies.

“They missed Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti, while Mauricio Pochettino is staying put.

“Ronald Koeman would be an excellent choice but if they’re not pursuing him, you can see United sticking with Van Gaal, almost by default.”

Van Gaal only took over 2 years ago, but has failed to land a major trophy and has missed out on Champions League football this season, and has been heavily criticised by fans. Mourinho meanwhile, was sacked by Chelsea in December and has been out of work since.
