Arsenal eyes Alexander Isak to bolster striking options
Arsenal are ramping up their efforts to sign a top-tier striker this summer, with Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak appearing as their primary contender.
According to club sources, Isak is on a four-man shortlist to replace the No. 9 role, whom Mikel Arteta wants strengthened before the new season.
Given the hefty price, Emirates officials feel a £100 million deal could tempt Newcastle to part ways with the Swedish international.
Isak’s remaining season, in which he scored 25 goals in 40 contests, has not gone overlooked, and his efforts were critical to Newcastle’s seventh-place Premier League finish.
Newcastle, on the other hand, is still looking to keep their star forward and is presumably drafting a stronger contract offer to keep him at St James’ Park.
This proposed deal seeks to match Isak’s reimbursement with that of the club’s top earners, such as Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier, showing his importance to Eddie Howe’s plans.
Meanwhile, Arsenal is re-evaluating their transfer targets now that the season is over. The club’s management is prepared to listen to ideas for Gabriel Jesus as a way to raise finances for a star acquiring them.
Along with Isak, Arsenal keeps a watch on Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon. However, the Swedish forward’s £86 million release clause could be expensive.
Arteta, while expected to receive a transfer budget, faces financial constraints following last year’s spending spree.
Arsenal’s ambition to land a top striker like Isak underscores their intent to challenge for major honors next season, adding a thrilling dimension to this summer’s transfer window.
