Arsenal and Chelsea to battle for Premier League defender

In a bid to bolster their defence, Arsenal and Chelsea are targeting James Tarkowski, and sizing their options of getting the Burnley defender during the January transfer.

According to the Daily Star, the clubs were in pursuit of Virgil Van Dijk, but his world-record move to Liverpool has forced the sides to look for an alternative, and the Burnley star has emerged as a likely target.

His value has increased during his time at Burnley: he was acquired for £3.6million in early 2017, but is now pegged to be around £30 million: the move could help the club earn some riches.

While Arsene Wenger has Tarkowski on his radar, he is also considering names like Jonny Evans, as well as David Luiz.

Apart from Chelsea and Arsenal, table-toppers City are also known to be keeping an eye on him. Burnley is currently seventh in the table.
