Arsenal and Manchester City played out a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium this evening which gives Liverpool the slightest of edges in this season’s Premier League title race.

After seeing Chelsea lose to Crystal Palace, City knew that if they could beat Arsenal, they would jump above Jose Mourinho’s men and onto top-spot and after David Silva gave them a 16th minute lead, it looked like number-one spot was going to go to Pellegrini’s men.

However, a second-half strike from Mathieu Flamini denied City the chance and gave The Gunners a much-needed confidence boost.

The game ended 1-1 and after the game, the two managers spoke to the press, and here is what they had to say.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: “In the second half we controlled the game but we could not score a second goal. It was a good game with two quality teams and very tight.

“I was confident we could win it but, after what we have gone through, it was important not to make a defensive mistake.

“What happened to us last week was a nightmare and on top of that we scored an own goal versus Swansea so the dressing room was really really flat on Tuesday night. I would like to pay credit to the team because of the way the team responded today showed a really special mental quality. They are a fantastic team to work with.”

Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini: “We wanted to win this game, especially for the fans after the 6-0 loss to Chelsea and draw against Swansea.

“We came back after half-time and we saw opportunities to create goals. We needed to win the second balls and we tried to get the second one for the victory but unfortunately couldn’t.

“It was a pleasure to score but today was important. For us, it is important to recover then we have a difficult game against Everton. It is going to be difficult now [to win the title].”

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini, speaking to BBC Sport: “I don’t know if the word is disappointed. This week we have played away at Manchester United and Arsenal and we have four points from six.

“In the first half we played very good but only scored one goal. In the second half, when they scored, they grew because they were at their home ground but, before they scored, we had a clear chance to make it 2-0.

“All of us want to win all our games but Arsenal are a very good team here and they are also fighting for the title.”
