Arsenal and Man United are set to battle it out to sign Mats Hummels. Reports are claiming that the defender IS available for £30m, even though Borussia Dortmund have denied that he is for sale.

Arsene Wenger won’t let Louis Van Gaal be the only bidder and the Gunners chief wants to be kept informed about the whole situation with the German. Man United have been the only team with serious interest in Hummels before now, as they made several enquiries about his availability and  transfer offers.

However, Dortmund had told the Red Devils that the centre-back was going nowhere, but reports are now claiming he is available for a fee of £30m and, with this news, Arsenal are adamant that they will not let United’s interest in the 25-year old go unchallenged.

Arsene Wenger is aware that Thomas Vermaelen could be leaving the Emirates and wants a world-class central defender – Hummels – if he does leave. He would also want yet another player to join this month as well, as he still ahs money to spend.

Louis Van Gaal wants to bring in central defender’s for his 5-3-2 formation. With both men desperate to sign Hummels, they will have to fight it out with each other to try and secure the signature of the Dortmund man.
