Arsenal captain and defender Thomas Vermaelen has revealed how happy he was to see midfielder Aaron Ramsey bag a brace on Tuesday night when the side beat Fenerbache 2-0 on the night and 5-0 on aggregate.

The Belgium centre-back also admitted that it is impressive how much Ramsey has improvement over the last few months and he believes that is down to a great pre-season.

Ramsey has been in fine form so far this season, scoring goals in both legs against Fenerbache and putting in a man-of-the-match performance against Fulham at the weekend.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Vermaelen revealed how happy he was for Ramsey.

“It was brilliant to see Aaron score his two goals,” Vermaelen told the official matchday programme.

“Not only is he getting into those positions and finishing well, but his all-round game has improved too. He seems really fit and strong, and he has a great engine. He had a very good pre-season and is now transferring that into our competitive games, and we’re all really happy to see him playing such an important role for us.”
