Arsenal have further expressed their interest in signing Benfica winger Goncalo Guedes as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could leave for Manchester City in January.

The Gunners would need to bolster their attacking options if they lose their England star to their title rivals, and Guedes is a highly rated youngster who Arsene Wenger is a fan of.

Wenger has sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old in the last few months, according to The Sun.

He has scored two goals as well as grabbing two assists for Benfica, who are top of the Portuguese league so far this term.

It is reported that Oxlade-Chamberlain is unhappy at the Emirates Stadium after an unsatisfying start to the season, which has seen starlet Alex Iwobi rise above him in the pecking order.

City are still pursuing the versatile player, and a move to the Etihad Stadium to play under manager Pep Guardiola would be intriguing for the 23-year-old, owing to the fact that he can improve into being a more consistent player as well as increased chances of winning trophies.

Guedes can be a solid replacement for Oxlade-Chamberlain in the eyes of Wenger and the Portugal international has already attracted interested from La Liga, Serie A the Premier League.
