Arsenal are closing in on signing Olympiakos centre-back Kostas Manolas, in a deal worth around £6million.

The Gunners have been interested in the Greek international for the past year, sending scouts to watch him on a regular basis, but their interest in him heated up this Summer after they sold Thomas Vermaelen to FC Barcelona for £15million, leaving the club with just Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker as recognised central defenders.

Official talks with the Greek side began over the weekend, and according to reports, the initial talks went well, and both parties are confident a deal can be wrapped up before the window shuts at the end of the month.

Despite being quoted at £8m for the centre-back, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, is feeling confident that he can sign him for £6m, and that is the offer he is putting on the table.

Manolas has also been monitored by Bayern Munich, Juventus and Manchester United, but it looks like it will be Arsenal who win the race to sign the 23-year-old.
