Arsenal defender believes team proved a point

Arsenal defender Kiera Gibbs believes the side proved a point to many people after they beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 in Germany last night.

Many pundits had suggested that The Gunners were only doing well so far this season because they hadn’t come up against a big team, however, they have now beaten the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Dortmund, with two of them coming in the last four days.

Arsene Wenger will now take his side to Old Trafford on Sunday to face Manchester United and Gibbs believes the two results previous will give them a huge boost.

“It is massive – especially after the first game [at Emirates Stadium] – because we wanted to come here and prove something and we have done that,” he told Arsenal Player.

“We didn’t do it in style, but the way we won the game shows we have a certain character in the team now and it showed.

“It is not an easy place to come to, not many teams can come here and get a result so we have to take that as a positive. We have put ourselves into a strong position for the rest of the group, so it is important that we take advantage of that.

“This is still a big week for us, we have a big weekend coming up but the last two games have been massive tests and we have come through them. I think we can go into the [Manchester United game] positively and try to get another result.

“We want to prove to ourselves – not everyone else – that we can do it against the big teams. At the moment, we are doing that and we’re happy with each other.”
