Arsenal eyeing bid for Benfica defender

Nelson Semedo being watched by Gunners

Arsenal could be set to make a move for Benfica right-back Nelson Semedo in January, following reports that he’s been watched by the Gunners.

Semedo has only made six first-team appearances for the Portuguese side to date, however has been a regular in the Benfica ‘B’ team since his emergence three years ago.

Hector Bellerin is the current first-choice right back for the Gunners, but with Mathieu Debuchy linked with a move away then boss Arsene Wenger will be looking for extra cover in that area.

Debuchy Leaving?

The Frenchman has admitted he’s considering his future and believes it could be away from the Emirates Stadium after falling down the pecking order since halfway through last season.

A shoulder injury kept Debuchy out of action for a few months, and during that time, Bellerin developed and continued to impress during his stint in the first-team.

However, the Gunners will face competition from Roberto Mancini‘s Inter Milan side as they are also tracking the youngster, who has netted one goal in his limited time in the Benfica starting XI.
