Arsenal face an uphill battle to land Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata

The Gunners have been heavily linked in recent weeks with a move for the 21-year-old, even though Arsene Wenger tried to dampen speculation at his press conference last week.

With Theo Walcott out for six months, a striker has become a pressing concern for the north London outfit as there are reservations over Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud has been carrying the attacking burden so far this campaign.

Reports surfacing in Italy suggest that Inter and Juve are both willing to offer ÂŁ11 million.

Morata recently hinted at a Real exit, when he said: “Real Madrid have been my team since I was little and will be all my life, but I think the important thing is to have a relevant role in the team.

“If I ever feel that’s not the case, I would look at other options. In football, it’s very difficult to stay at the top and even more so in a team like Real.”

But with Arsenal seemingly prepared to take Morata on loan, it remains to be seen whether Inter and Juve will pinch him from under Wenger’s nose.

Morata has been ineffectual for Real this season, netting just twice in 12 outings.
