Arsenal centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos may be on the sidelines for a while after injuring himself during Greece’s Nations League match against Finland at Tampere last night.

Sokratis who was Greece’s captain for the match, reportedly injured his ankle and did not feature in the match after half-time. Finland eventually won the match 2-0 thanks to goals from Pyry Soiri and Glen Kamara.

Sokratis previously injured himself in Arsenal’s match against Everton and subsequently missed two matches. He played and scored for Arsenal in their Europa League match against Qarabag but did not play in their match against Fulham.

There is no certainty so as to how long Sokratis won’t play.

The 30-year old joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund this summer at a reported fee of £17.6 million. He has adapted to English football pretty well and his injury is a big blow for Arsenal.

With Laurent Koscielny still recuperating from his Achilles injury, Rob Holding and Shkodran Mustafi are the only centre-backs Unai Emery can count on.

Arsenal resume their Premier League campaign against Leicester City on Monday.
