Premier League side Arsenal have had a £10million bid rejected from Newcastle for midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

Arsene Wenger is adamant to strengthen his squad this summer, but so far he has failed in all of his pursuits and how now turned his attentions to Newcastle’s French midfielder.

After missing out on Marouane Fellaini and Luiz Gustavo this summer, Wenger will now go after Cabaye as he still wants to bolster up his midfield ahead of the new season, which started poorly for Wenger after they lost 3-1 at home to Aston Villa.

Cabaye’s Newcastle United were in action tonight in Manchester as they took on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, which eventually finished 4-0 to Manuel Pelligrini’s men and Cabaye’s absence was a major talking point.

The Frenchman travelled with Newcastle to Manchester, but he was then sent home because he wasn’t in the right state of mind to play, according to the BBC.

Magpie boss Alan Pardew had this to say to BBC 5 Live.

“What I can confirm (is that) on the eve of a game we’ve had a bid for one of the players which we don’t think is acceptable. Therefore I have to pick a team that I think is going to get a result.

“The rights or wrongs of that bid I will leave others to think about, but I know what I think of it. I don’t want to go over the same point, I understand that [the bid] is the main focus of the media, but my main focus is to try and get a result.”
