Arsenal have made Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema their prime summer transfer target, and are ready to offer the Spanish giants £40million to get their man.

Sillyseason understands that Madrid are looking to sign a high-profile striker this summer, with Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero known to be targets. This could mean that Benzema would be surplus to requirement at the Bernabau, which could spell his exit.

Benzema is enjoying a successful campaign and is a regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s team, due to Gonzalo Higuain being shipped out on loan to Napoli last summer. Arsene Wenger wants to strengthen his attack, and could now seize the oppertunity to land the striker he has been chasing for the best part of 6 years as Arsenal manager, hoping the £40million offer would be enough.

Benzema has scored 24 goals in all competitions this season, the last of which coming in Real Madrid’s narrow Champions League semi-final first leg win over Bayern Munich.

Arsenal are set for a busy summer with Arsene Wenger reportedly ready to spend big with the help of a hefty transfer war-chest that may be boosted by funds raised from player sales with the likes of Mikel Arteta, Lukas Podolski, Abou Diaby among those who could be on their way out.
