Arsenal will join Man United in the race to sign Ron Vlaar in January. Several reports are claiming that the Gunners have already made a bid of around £8m and that they have offered him a big improvement on his current wages.
Paul Lambert has claimed he will not be letting go of the defender anytime soon but talks over a new deal have not yet yielded any results and with Arsenal desperate to add some defenders to their squad, a move could soon be on the cards.
In fact, with Vlaar’s contract close to its end, any club who want to sign him can choose to sign him on a pre-contract agreement – they can sign him but he will only move in summer instead. The news of this interest from Arsene Wenger will worry Louis Van Gaal who was hoping to sign the Dutchman for Man United.
He’s been linked with a host of defenders like Raphael Varane and Aymeric Laporte but Vlaar was the cheapest and top option for Van Gaal and he could now miss out on his signature.
