Gunners and Real Madrid join Manchester City
Arsenal and Real Madrid are the latest sides to be linked with a Summer swoop for Liverpool star Raheem Sterling.
The England international is set to leave Anfield during the pre-season after a controversial season off the field, including an interview with BBC Sport which wasn’t organised by the football club.
Season of Controvery
Sterling told BBC that he wouldn’t be signing a new contract until the end of the season, but since then, he has informed the club he wants to leave.
The winger’s agent, Aidy Ward, has also been in the middle of all the controversy, claiming his client wouldn’t sign a deal even if it was worth ÂŁ900k-a-week.
Formal Bids
Since the end of the season, Manchester City have launched a ÂŁ25million bid for the winger, which could rise to ÂŁ30m, but Liverpool quickly rejected the offer.
The Anfield officials value Sterling at around ÂŁ50m.
Despite the hefty price-tag, that hasn’t put off City, nor has it put off Arsenal or Real Madrid, who are the two latest clubs to join the race.
New Suitors Revealed
New Real Madrid boss, Rafael Benitez, is a keen admirer of Sterling and wants to make him one of his big Summer deals at the Bernabeu, whilst Arsene Wenger is also a huge admirer of the winger.
Sterling is also keen on a return to London, meaning Arsenal could be favourites to land the 20-year-old despite Wenger admitting he wouldn’t pay over the top for anyone this Summer.
