Arsenal are set to make an offer worth £10 million for Celtic defender Vigril van Dijk in January, in hope to beat Premier League rivals’ Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United to the Dutchman’s signature.

Arsene Wenger has made Van Dijk his January transfer priority as he looks to upgrade his side’s defence, which has been subject to heavy criticism in recent weeks.

Celtic have appeared to be reluctant to sell the Dutch centre-back, but a fee around the region of £10 million from the North London club could prove to be an irrisistable amount of money for the Scottish champions. Van Dijk is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League and join a club that is a regular outfit in the Champions League.

Earlier in the year, Van Dijk stated that the Gunners would easily fit his requirements, saying: “Arsenal is an amazing club, of course. It’s a big club with a great history as well.” After being asked whether he wanted a move to the Premier League, the Dutchman added: “I have ambitions, of course, like every player.”
