Arsenal lodge bid for Romulo

Arsenal are rumoured to have lodged a £9.5 million bid for Spartak Moscow defensive midfielder Romulo, with the possibility of Yaya Sanogo going in the opposite direction on loan.

Arsene Wenger had been looking to strengthen in the position in the summer, but the club failed to lure Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira to the Emirates.

With competition from Chelsea for Khedira and recent prospect Lucas Silva, it seems Wenger has had to look elsewhere for reinforcements.

Romulo is in the same mould as former Gunners fans favourite Gilberto Silva, but many fans would encourage the club to be wary about signing the 24 year-old, as he has only recently made his comeback from a season and a half long injury.

The club only have Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta in the position and with both players into their thirties, an energetic defensive midfielder is needed at the club.

The deal could be one that interests the Russian club, with a fair fee involved and with the incentive of Sanogo going to the club on loan, Romulo could find himself an Arsenal player in the near future.
