Arsenal had an £80million bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rejected by Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window, says Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito.

The Gunners were looking for ‘a couple’ of forwards to bolster their attacking threat in the last transfer window but only managed to seal a £17.1m deal for Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna.

Aubameyang has attracted huge interest from a host of top European clubs including Real Madrid and Manchester City.

However, Morabito says Arsene Wenger’s side were desperate to sign the Gabon international, who has already netted 14 goals in 14 appearances for the German giants this season.

“Sometime ago, I called [Michael] Zorc, Dortmund’s Director of Football, to talk about Aubameyang, but the ‘no’ was absolutely categorical,” Morabito told IamNaples.it.

“I know that this summer, Arsenal offered €90million [£80m] for Aubameyang, but Borussia didn’t want to hear anything about it.”

The 27-year-old striker was suspended by the club for going on a night out recently but repaid them with four goals on his return to shake the Bundesliga.
