Arsene Wenger rubbishes reports claiming otherwise

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he is not interested in signing Everton defender John Stones.

Reports emerged yesterday evening that Wenger was set to ask for funds from the club’s board in order to sign the England international, but speaking ahead of tomorrow’s game with Sunderland, the Arsenal boss confirmed he isn’t interested in signing Stones.

Stones has been heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park, with Chelsea the likely destination after they saw four formal bids turned down over the summer.

Chelsea were then joined by Manchester United, who have also shown interest in the defender, but Arsenal are not in the race at all despite reports stating otherwise.

Wenger Denies Interest

When asked about interest in Stones, Wenger said: “We are not after John Stones if that’s what you want to know, we are focused on tomorrow’s game.

“I ask my players to focus on tomorrow’s game. I didn’t ask the board anything. It’s not the board who buys the players.

“We are in December and we will just focus on tomorrow’s game.”
