Arsene Wenger isn’t pursuing Napoli striker

Arsenal are not interested in signing Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports.

The Gunners had been strongly linked with making a summer swoop for the Argentine international, especially after the Serie A side failed to achieve a Champions League spot for next season.

However, Napoli‘s reluctance to sell their star-asset has seen Arsenal cool their interest and pull out of the race to sign him.

Napoli’s chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that the club won’t be selling Higuain unless a club activates his release clause, which is worth ÂŁ69.5million.

Arsenal’s Interest in Higuain

Arsenal were strongly linked with Higuain back in 2013, when he was at Real Madrid, but despite being in advanced talks with the La Liga giants, Arsene Wenger delayed the deal after trying to lure Luis Suarez away from Liverpool.

Eventually the Frenchman missed out on both stars and was left striker-less in the transfer window.

However, he won’t be entering a race to sign Higuain this year, leaving Manchester United and Liverpool the only Premier League teams interested in the 27-year-old.
